Poor Izatullah Dawlatzai

Izatullah Dawlatzai got up this morning and thought to himself: “Maybe today’s the day that I, Izatullah Dawlatzai, will make a name for myself. I will bowl so well against the World Twenty20 Champions that the name Izatullah Dawlatzai will forever be synonymous with bowling that is both spectacularly destructive and also admirably economical.”

To be fair, he did take two wickets, but he also conceded 56 runs in three overs. “Oh well,” he thought. “We can chase 197. I’ve a chance to make amends yet.”

At 26-8, Izatullah Dawlatzai will have been champing at the bit. “My chance is nearly here. One more wicket and I can show them what I can do.” Several over later, he finally got his chance, but after facing only three balls, during which he failed to score a run, he was left stranded on nought not out.

He was primed, he was ready, but circumstances denied him his opportunity to shine. Poor Izatullah Dawlatzai.

    1. I don’t buy that argument. You used “he” no less than eight times. You cannot want to write someone’s name and pronoun the shit out of him at the same time.

Accept that you’re a mean person, KC.

    2. You prefer embittered to mean what? Drunk? Smelling of anchovies? Characteristic of Fred West? I’m not sure you can go around selecting meanings for words just like that.

  1. England avoided the embarrassing defeat to a non-test side. Job done for this tournament, humiliation avoided. Anything from this point on is a bonus.

    1. That’s quite a low bar you set yourself, daneel. With a minimum of four matches still to come, it makes it quite likely that your expectations will be exceeded.

      But wait!

      Is humiliation avoided just yet?

It is still possible for a non-test side to qualify for the next round and end up in England’s group.

Possibly humiliation merely deferred, not avoided.

Put that in your pessimistic pipe and blow a five meter plume of smoke with it.
