Posted by No, seriously – they are. We were kind of hoping that planning would involve deciding precisely how many names to put in the selectorial hat followed by a lengthy debate about which hat to use, but they actually seem to be doing things properly.
After picking a young one-day side with a long format whiff about it earlier in the summer, Australia now have a fairly serious A-side touring the country, getting used to English conditions. Nathan Lyon’s in it, Ed Cowan’s in it and even Mitchell Johnson’s in it. Peter Forrest and George Bailey are in the squad too after already playing the one-dayers. Don’t they have homes to go to?
It’s almost like Australia are focusing on one particular goal and are tailoring all their preparation with that in mind. At least they’ve got a three-match home series against South Africa to contend with before next year. Those things can really knacker you up.
