England got in an early blow ahead of all those Ashes serieses the day before yesterday when Australia selected Steven Smith to bat at six. However, the Aussies have now struck back through not selecting Steven Smith at all.

Undeterred, England reacted swiftly and once again hold the advantage after Australia opted to select Mitchell Johnson.

Take that, Australia!

  1. Serious point alert.

Yes, the England pool of potential players is significantly stronger than that of the Aussies. To such an extent that England should be favourites whenever they start against the old enemy just now.

Read that previous paragraph again, folks, because this is the first time in living memory that such a statement could be made in truth (rather than in irony or sarcasm).

It was not the case in 2005, 2009 or even 2010/11 in my opinion.

But from this novel and privileged position, England need to back up that advantage with actual results over the next few years.

We England supporters and lovers all need to do our bit by minimising the kibosh potential.

So back off, KC, remember all that hubris stuff that nearly backfired on us all the other year? I still shudder at the thought of it.

    1. How either of those two arseclowns (Johnson and Smith) made it into the touring party is a mystery. If I thought these shenanigans would have left with Hilditch and Ponting.
At this rate you can pencil in both series in 2013.

    1. 7-0-43-0 at the end, which actually represents an improvement.

The worst thing is that with only 4 overs left in the match he had three of his overs still to bowl. Hussey and Clarke were preferred to Johnson in order to prop up the bowling. Watson was 99% accurate the other day when he talked of a lack of balance in England’s team, erring only on the name of the team he was talking about.
