Does anyone know what a back yard is?

Samit Patel said of playing Pakistan:

“It would be a great achievement to beat them 4-0 in their own backyard.”

Yes, it would, considering you’re in the Middle East.

There seems to be an issue defining ‘back yard’. Kevin Pietersen used the same term last week.

As a rule of thumb, international team names will point you in the right direction as to what constitutes the opposition’s back yard. If you’re playing Pakistan, their back yard is Pakistan. If you’re playing Australia, their back yard is Australia.

  1. I read somewhere that Pakistan (PCB) is open to playing a home ODI series in Australia. The possibilities of what can constitute a backyard for Pakistan is limitless

    1. They had a backyard here for a while, only they had a bust-up with the local council over their dues and had the gates padlocked.

  2. I do think its premature talking about 4-0 when you’re 1-0 up and the batting bar Cook still looks as flakey as a the average dubai residents time keeping. (currently sitting waiting for a meeting who hasn’t called but is already 45 minutes late.)

Ps i much prefer garden. Much more english.

    1. Using this definition, England’s back yard is where they play their home games, i.e. the south.

If you’re going to make a tired, sad and unfair joke, pick the right one ffs.

    1. Yes, it does. That is exactly right.

It would be an incredible achievement for England to win 4-0 on Pakistan’s allotment.
