At best it’s splitting hairs. Everyone knows what it was: a balls-up. The match should be officially reclassified as such.
Sport is of the moment. Except for a few rare exceptions people only remember the most recent results. Would you care if Sri Lanka against New Zealand at Kandy in 1984 was reclassified as a draw? There’s no reason for it to happen and it would be a gross miscarriage of justice, but would anyone actually care?
Maybe Sir Richard Hadlee would. His 4-8 played a large part in New Zealand’s win, but essentially it’s over with. It’s just names and numbers on a page. In the grand scheme of things, it’s far better that we just forget about England v Pakistan at the Oval in 2006.
The ICC would do better to discuss the fact that Pakistan have barely played any Test cricket since then. That nation’s Test future is of far greater importance than its past results.

while they were at it the ICC also made another decision, that is to shift the champions trophy from Pakistan…but wherever it’s held, Pakistan will retain revenue…
I wonder if its possible to retain revenue without having to send our team and avoid any further embarrassments on the field…
