It’s a time of pessimism and things dying

Autumn. The cricket season ends. The plants die. Every sunny day is tainted with the thought that it might be the last. On the field there’s the Pro40 and one-day internationals and all there is to look forward to is the Champions’ Trophy. If a cricket tournament could be a November Sunday morning in Redcar, then the Champions’ Trophy would be just that.

We’ll be honest. We’re struggling a bit right now. But don’t worry, we’ve got a ludicrously buoyant post coming up tomorrow that’s all sunshine and positivity. It’s about England’s one-day cricket as a metaphor for life.

  1. The current cat is not a huge fan of additional cats.

Besides, if we got a new cat every time we were negative, we wouldn’t be able to get out of the door.

  2. As Mayor of Redcar, I do take exception. November in the north-east may be one of the freshest experiences in the UK but there’s still lots to do. Please come and visit, especially in November.

  3. The walk southwards up the beach is beautiful – high cliffs and headlands dominate the view. It’s quite magnificent.

Under no circumstances walk northwards up the beach, though.

  4. If you walk South up the beach and North up the beach, does that mean it is a magical beach that only goes up, whichever direction you walk in?

    I must visit.

  5. I (unsuprisingly) second Miriam’s cat suggestion. Nothing cheers you up like a new cat.

StraussCat wasn’t a big fan of additional cats either, but now he seems to enjoy being jumped on by Meowcus in the early hours of the morning.

You’be just described Scotland throughout the entire year…
