England 102 all out

This kind of performance begs an obvious question: angry or amazed?

They say that you can never tell how good or bad a batting performance is until both sides have batted.

That’s not strictly true now, is it?

  1. See what happens when you’re not allowed to boo Ponting or snicker at Johnson?
Clark may have had a hand in things too…

  2. We’re pretty sure they booed him.

They should have gone for the silent boo or the standing ovation.

  3. strangely, im neither angry or amazed

i had quite a peaceful feeling that we would lose this test and when it went so badly wrong it took me back to the 1990s, a simpler time when the concept of hope never troubled us.

  4. I HATE that highpitched whoop. I always thought it was Andrew Symonds doing it, but obviously it isn’t. Sorry Andrew.

  5. hayden on tms on saturday afternoon:

“the result is not important, because as we we all know england lead the series.

“what they have to do is consolidate. it’s not negotiable.

“they’ve been particularly good at executing their skills and if they go back into a holding pattern and think that’s the way they’re going to deliver then the series will slip away at this point.”

  6. Can we have an article on the Vanity of James Anderson, protecting his record of not being out for 0 rather then protecting his teammate, which is the job of a nightwatchman. I am growing to dislike him. I never used to though.

  7. Soviet Onion – suggest Jim thought that the idea of a night watchman when we are about a million behind was a bit of a daft one……

  8. A leg bye to boot; he’s still on for his first duck. D’oh.

Yeah, ceci, you have to question the point of a night watchman when there’s 270 overs left to survive, and only five wickets remaining. That means the tail have to bat on average four times longer than any of the top order managed.

Call me a contrarian, but I don’t think having Jimmy (fail to) protect Prior’s wicket is going to alter that equation too much.

  9. From the keyboard of Aggers…

“I would replace Ravi Bopara at The Oval with Rob Key, a proven three in county cricket and a calm, phlegmatic character”

Why is this man not a selector?
