Luke Pomersbach is a lucky son of a gun

Tell you what, you’ve got to be pretty darned lucky to be branded ‘a son of a gun’ on this site. Luke Pomersbach is that lucky.

Pomersbach plays for Western Australia, but he’s currently serving a ban because he’s a big ole booze hound. Rumour has it that he was caught with his nose in a post-prandial port after dining with Salman Rushdie and Noam Chomsky.

Anyway, our Luke decides that he’ll take advantage of his enforced absence by soaking up a bit of Twenty20 fun at the Waca where Australia were playing New Zealand.

As he arrived at the ground, he received an urgent phone call from the Australian team management asking him if he’d fill in for Brad Hodge who’d knacked his back.

The lucky son of a gun. Think of the savings. Even allowing for Twenty20’s foreshortened nature, he’s still looking at a net saving of at least £20 on beer. That’s like free money.

We’ve never once been called from the crowd to represent England and we’ve seen several of their one-day matches, so it’s not like we wouldn’t have strengthened the side.

OH NO!

Roelof van der Merwe just heard you haven't yet signed up for the King Cricket email...

...so he's on his way to see you!

  1. Michael Slater is never afraid of the obvious.

Richie Benaud’s belief is that if you can’t add to the picture, don’t say anything at all. We thought of this once when as the camera panned around the ground, it landed on someone dressed as Batman.

Slater’s contribution, after a pause for thought: “Batman.”

  2. Come now, we are turning into Slater’s ourselves!
It should be obvious, that he is a halfwit who can only point out the obvious, and it should obviously be left at that.
obviously, it is obvious that the obvious is there, and that Slater is so obvious to point it out, we do not need to stoop to such obviousness, as we are beyond that, obviously.

  3. I’ll leave it at that, I reckon!

Although I did have a simliar experience to young master Pomersbach, albeit at a much, much lower level..
Went to watch Basildon 3rd XI play, was asked to stand in at the last moment and performed remarkably..

    I scored 45no, from 190.
took 3-13 with very lazy off (I can’t possibly say spin, as it didn’t), to reduce the opposition to 147.

Never have I been able to recreate that form again.

    Ah, the good old days..
