Video: Mohammad Amir bowls Alex Hales

This delivery is basically what we all expected from Mohammad Amir, no?

Sometimes – like when watching an Alastair Cook innings for example – we can feel like we’ve seen it all before. There’s the cut. There’s the nurdle. There’s a leave.

Stumps being tonked by inswingers is not something we can ever imagine tiring of. Even when the team we’re supporting is on the receiving end.

  1. What completely baffles me is that he couldn’t play cricket for 5 years. He couldn’t even net. So how on Earth is he still this good?

I go from being mediocre to utter shit in the 4 months between the end of the season and winter nets.

    1. With all due respect, Sam, I think the “go from being mediocre” bit of your self-aware statement might hold the key to the difference between you and Amir.

Are we very sure that Mair didn’t even net. That level of restriction would take some policing.

In any case, surely he could bowl against the wall or garage door in his own back yard, for example? That method enabled me to go from utter shit to moderately shit throughout my childhood.

      1. Steve, not Sam. They don’t look anything like each other. One of them is a human, for goodness sake.

      2. Apologies Steve. Apologies Sam.

Thanks for spotting my error, Bert. I also typed “Mair” instead of “Amir”. Let’s just say that I had a bit of a mare.

For the avoidance of doubt, Bert, which of Steve and Sam is human?

  2. I concur that stumps getting tonked is very much a thing of beauty, I hope to see at least one example tomorrow when I go to see Amir @ Old Trafford.

(…if you say it out loud, it sounds a bit like Emirates Old Trafford, geddit?)

I also hope that England are 350/1 at that point, though.

  3. To be fair, Amir might have got some catches as well, had Pakistan not taken a leaf out of the Ian Bell school of slip catching.

      1. Excellent point, Balladeer.

It’s a sad day when the only thing less convincing about Vince than his test match batting is his beard. Frankly, that “attempted strange” should have told the selectors all they needed to know.

      2. @Ballardeer – Too soon! You take that back!

I see the mighty Foxes just cruised to victory again. This winning lark is quite good fun. Especially fun with the rabble up the M1 looking like going down.
