Following India’s one-day series defeat to Bangladesh, MS Dhoni has hit back at his critics, saying that he’s the captain and nothing beyond that.

When it was put to him that the result might be considered something of a disappointment to India fans, Dhoni may or may not have replied: “It’s my team.”

The implication seems to be that the captain is in control and if he wants to lose to Bangladesh, he can lose to Bangladesh and no-one else is permitted an opinion on the matter.

“I don’t slag you lot off when you use the word ‘would’ when you mean ‘will’,” he continued. “So don’t get all up in my grill when my team loses a game of cricket. Each person should stick to his own field. My field is the winning and losing of games of cricket and I will continue to do both of those things to the best of my ability until the selectors decide that someone else can do them better than I can.”

When reporters looked at him quizzically, he added: “I ain’t even lying.”

  1. I can’t remember a time when MS Dhoni wasn’t India’s captain.

And before you all say it, yes that is because I am 12 years old.

    1. And the link from there’s bust so no-one knows that we also tipped Andy Solomons.

    2. Although interestingly Adil Rashid was another of those mentioned at that time…

  2. KC, can you comment on claims that MS Dhoni said the words “Haters gonna hate,” and, “U Mad?” while making a little “u” sign with his hand to show how it was spelled?

    1. He can ask for players who aren’t stupid enough to kill themselves just because their captain tells them to.

    2. I wonder what percentage of commitment we should attribute to the player who really would die out there for his captain.

Given that comments such as “they’re giving 110% out there” or “we gave 120%” or even “he gave 200% and left everything out there” seem relatively commonplace in describing those who survive and play further matches, I’d like to propose 42000% as a suitable figure for R Ashwin.

But I’m no mathematician. Perhaps a numbers man, Bert for example, could tell us the exact percentage for these distressing but impressive circumstances.

  3. MS Dhoni isn’t the captain. Eoin Morgan’s the captain.

We only said that MS Dhoni is the captain to be nice, but Eoin Morgan is actually the captain.

  4. When did England decided that bright, eye-searing orange is an acceptable costume? Or is it a joke costume for a joke form- (is dragged off by the ECB)

  5. It was great to see KC’s Mum posting again. I need to go see what Peter Kay said now

  6. This England team is playing the greatest brand of cricket in the world! Never mind anybody else!
