World Cup? What World Cup? The football one was over and done with last year, and the rugby one hasn’t started yet.
Meanwhile, in cricketing news, Cook and Compton fall cheaply to Yorkshire’s finest. Too late to get Sidebottom in for the Ashes?
The thing about Dan Vettori is that he looked so much like an undergraduate student when he first toured England in 1999…
…and he still looks like a student.
It’s just that he now looks like one of those perpetual students who is still doing research into something-or-other having completed his masters and first PhD 10 years ago.
He looks younger than 18 here. Amazing to realise he’s been a Blackcap half his life.

OK, say he looked like a schoolboy when he first played for the Kiwis.
But by the time he came to England in 1999, a couple of years later, he did look like an undergrad. He’d even acquired the existential angst look of the undergrad in that short space of time. I think he might even smile occasionally in that Youtube vid.
Wonderful clip, JayneFrances – thanks for sharing.
That’s a serious man-crush you have for Big Danny V, KC. It’s not entirely unjustified, being as he might the first player to the magical 5,000 run/400 wicket test milestone.
